Hello? Everyone here? Good, we can begin.
My name is Kate. I’m in my third year of practicing mindfulness meditation. I have twin girls and they are five years old. I started meditating when they were two years old. Are you surprised a mother of twin toddlers picked up meditation? No? Good.
Soon after I started meditating, I got the burning desire to teach my kids what I was learning. That’s when I picked up Susan Kaiser Greenland’s book. Now, in their own little four-year-old way, my kids are starting tune in to themselves and their world.
This blog is about me being a mindful parent and teaching mindfulness to my kids. There are some mindful parenting blogs out there and there are some mindful kids blogs out there. This blog is the center of the mindful parents/mindful kids blog Venn diagram. Also, it’s an attempt to bring some humor into the mindfulness world. Sometimes things can get a little too Zen, ya know? I also do Iyengar yoga and that gets mixed in with the mindfulness. Yoga and mindfulness go together like a cat and a caption. In 2012 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia so I write about that sometimes, too.
That being said, if you feel that meditation and yoga is useless new age bullshit or the preparatory stages for demon possession, you are welcome to switch to a more worthwhile task. Also you should know that I swear sometimes. But only when absolutely necessary, dammit.
To protect them from Internet stalker ninjas, I will refer to my kids as Cricket and Buzzy Bee.
Feel free to email me at mindfulzoo{at]gmail|dot|com if you have any questions, comments or just want to ramble. Intolerance won’t be tolerated, though.

Ha. Another twin mom that meditates … I am not at all surprised. Happy to meet you, your little community over here. We share many of the same values. I’m thrilled to be on your blogroll and I’m adding you to mine as well. Namaste.
Thank you for this. I’m in the mdlide of a rough spot with one of my children, and this reminded me to take my ego out of the situation and let go of trying to control things. Instantaneous success? Of course not But I will keep working on it.

Hi, just saw you were on insight connect and sent you a friend request. I am in the Bethesda area too. Also have 2 kids, also have been meditating for a little over 3 years and also have been diagnosed with severe fibro. I do zen now but originally took up mindfulness for pain relief doing the Jon kabat zinn program. Anyway we seem to have a lot in common and I really like the blog so I thought I’d say hello.
Hi Steve, welcome! I accepted your friend request on Insight Connect. We do have a lot in common! Hope to see you around the Internets!
